Understanding Compassion Fatigue, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
I wanted to share and summarize some of my favorite tips on coping with compassion fatigue. The full article can be found at the bottom.
1. Do what you can with what is available to you.
If you can't get a good night sleep, take some time to at least rest. Stay hydrated, even if that means drinking other fluids that are not water and eat foods that are of the best quality accessible to you.
2. Wash up.
At the end of the day, "wash away" the problems, troubles, and hardness that happened, even if it is just washing your hands or face.
3. Find things to look forward to.
A local upcoming event or even just a new tv show or movie coming out.
4. Learn about your co-workers.
Building connections with those around you at work can lead to a support system for celebration and loss. Conversations also help promote positive feelings towards yourself and co-workers.
5. Take time away from work
Even if that just means during the work phone off at the end of the day.
